5. Hobbit Home in Vals, Switzerland
Designed by SeArch and Christian Müller Architects, this underground home that resembles the “Hobbit Hole” made famous in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books is located in an area of Switzerland famed for its thermal baths and awesome mountain views.
As with most underground homes, it costs nothing to heat and cool and was designed to be very bright and open once you make your way down into it.
